Past Scorpions in Marathon Game, 14-6
Posted March 16, 2008
A seemingly
comfortable lead turned into disaster as William Woods University (Mo.)
erupted for nine runs in the top the seventh inning to coast past UTB/TSC,
14-6, Sunday, March 16, at Scorpion Field.
The loss broke a four-game winning streak for the Scorpions and dropped their record to 9-21 for the season. The Owls, visiting the Rio Grande Valley for Spring Break, are now 10-7. The game lasted three hours and 50 minutes.
The Scorpions, who swept a four-game sweep of Paul Quinn College last week, will host Fisher College (Mass.) in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Monday, March 17. The two teams meet again in a single game at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Scorpion FIeld.
UTB/TSC led 6-3 after six innings after another solid performance by Scorpion starting pitcher Julian Moya, who gave up two earned runs, allowing six hits and striking out eight.
But the Scorpion bullpen collapsed, with four relief pitchers allowing 11 runs in the next two innings. Five Scorpion errors also contributed to the loss.
The Scorpions had nine hits, two each by Ryan MacDonald, Jorge Camorlinga and Schaune Collins. Camorlinga has a six-game hitting streak.
Walter Blume hit his first homer of the year in the second inning.
After the series with Fisher, the Scorpions finally begin RRAC play on the road March 21-22 against Texas College in Tyler.
