

Scorpions Come from Behind for 7-6 Victory in Twinbill Split

The UTB/TSC Scorpions
rallied from a 6-2 deficit to edge Valley City State University (N.D.), 7-6,
in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday, March 5, at Scorpion Field.
VCSU came back in the nightcap, scoring the first five runs and holding off a Scorpion rally for a 5-4 victory.
UTB/TSC is now 3-18 for the season while the Vikings are 2-4.
The doubleheader marked the fifth and sixth games for the Scorpions in a four-day span. The Scorpions next play three games against Viterbo University, starting with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday, March 7, followed by a doubleheader at 12 noon Saturday, March 8.
The Scorpions have eight more home games from March 12-18.
Scorpions 7, Vikings 6 (first game)
Jacob Yousif tripled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brian Dombeck to break a 6-6 tie.
In the previous inning, the Scorpions got singles from Jorge Camorlinga, Dombeck, Tyler O'Neal and Ignacio Celedon, with Dombeck driving in two runs on his hit. Schaune Collins and Scott Price also had RBI when they were hit by pitches with the bases loaded.
Ryan McDonald hit a solo homer in the first inning and McDonald doubled home Camorlinga, who had singled, in the second inning.
Sophomore pitcher Julian Moya, making his first relief appearance of the season, picked up the win. He went two and two-thirds inning of shutout relief work, striking out three while allowing only two hits.
Camorlinga, McDonald, Dombeck, and O'Neal had two hits each for the Scorpions.
Vikings 5, Scorpions 4 (second game)
VCSU's Alex Wheal blasted a three-run homer in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie and lead the Vikings to a win in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Vikings opened their lead to 5-0 before the Scorpions scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jacob Yousif doubled and Andres Monterrubio walked, and both scored on a single by Celedon.
The Scorpions made things interesting in the seventh, scoring twice but leaving the tying run on third base when the game ended.
Chris Walker was the only Scorpion with two hits.
Miguel Azcona started on the mound for the Scorpions and allowed four runs in four innings of work.
